KHAN WITHDRAWS FROM RACE FOR COUNTY TREASURER
Lends Full-Support to Billy Briscoe
HOUSTON- Local community activist Chad Khan withdrew his candidacy for Harris County Treasurer today citing a need for the Party to rally around one candidate to avoid a costly Primary battle.
Expecting what could have been an expensive, even possibly contentious, race, Khan put first the Party to which he has put forth much effort as a candidate, activist and fundraiser and decided that there should only be one target in 2010–the Republican incumbent in the race.
“After evaluating the costs and benefits of a Primary battle with another good Democrat like Billy Briscoe, I made the decision to withdraw my candidacy,” said Khan, adding, “I give my full support to Billy Briscoe and will be proud to do everything I can to help him defeat Republican Orlando Sanchez.”
Chad Khan, a long-time Democratic activist, previously ran in 2006 and 2008 for State Representative District 126 in NW Harris County, increasing Democratic turnout each year in a “red” district.
“I would like to thank all of the Democratic Precinct Chairs, elected officials, candidates and activists who supported my effort,” continued Khan, “I will continue to be of service to our Party and I look forward to helping Democrats with from the top to the bottom of the ballot.”
